G9 Travel Guide: DC Eats – Birch and Barley

April 22, 2012

If you in DC and looking for some good eats, head uptown to the Logan Circle neighborhood for a sumptuous beer-paired feast at Birch and Barley.

Beer director Greg Engbert has masterfully curated a selection that features domestic all-stars (Sixpoint, Dogfish Head, Green Flash) alongside a healthy smattering of international players (Ayinger, Gaffel, La Choulette).

Endless Taps.

With more than 500 brews and a helpful, attentive waitstaff to guide the way, diners can find the absolute perfect pints to complement the delicious dishes.  We particularly liked the Brat burger, served with a beer-braised sauerkraut (DIY gourmands can make it themselves here).

Overall, chef Kyle Bailey’s expertly executed, market-driven American cuisine transforms the experience from novel (“Look at all the beers! How fun!”) into legitimately enjoyable, unpretentious fine dining (“Why don’t more restaurants do this?”).
